- Course goals: - explore American literature written in English since the days of the first colonies to the beginning of the 20th century - learn to comment on literature via reading journals - get ideas how to use simplified literary texts in your ELT classes

- Metody hodnocení
- Course requirements: - Regular attendance and participation in all classes. Have the texts downloaded for classes. - Completion of all written work that is to be submitted for grading. The tests must be done on the assigned dates; journal entries by the given date. A medical certificate or equivalent document must be presented if the test is missed or an assignment is handed more than 7 days late. - Reading journal is based on your reading from class readers and/or anthologies (paper or on-line versions, your choice). By Wednesday midnight each week, a 10-line entry shall be sent to the instructor, commenting on a specific text or task. Details will be placed on the moodlinka, under úkol. - Final project: take one book of the list, comment on its background, artistic qualities, and originality; prepare a lesson plan for the use of the book in two sessions at your ELT class. Project details and requirements will be placed on the moodlinka by the end of April. The books include: The Last of the Mohicans; Typee; Uncle Toms Cabin; Little Women; The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; The Call of the Wild.
