Prerequisites
The seminar will be offered to all interested students of German who want to learn more about the international and political situation of their field of study.

Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to learn more about language policy concepts and to recognize the global role of German as a foreign language. In the end of this seminar, students should be able to discuss relevant topics, to interpret relevant texts and documents and to formulate there own position.
In the end of the seminar the students will know more about the situation of the German language worldwide, the anchoring at schools, universities, language schools and in institutions. The politics of German-speaking countries to spread the German language in the past and present will be analyzes and compared with concepts from the European Union and the Czech Republic.
Syllabus
  • Language policy means all activities that affect the learning or the use of languages in a country. According to curricular issues, and foreign language offerings in schools and universities are as much as promoting (or suppression) of minority immigrants and neighboring languages. But also the active promotion of the mother tongue in other countries, through special organizations, sending lecturers or financial support are also forms of language policy, as the advertisement for a language or its anchoring in international organizations.
