Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to work with information on the relations between Czechs and Slovaks during the existence of the common Czechoslovak state in the years 1918 to 1992, with special focus on the history of the Slovak nation and state.
Syllabus
  • Synopsis: 1. Slovakia – historic, economic, and socio-political partner in the common Czechoslovak state. 2. Geopolitical and political-national interests of Czechs and Slovaks. 3. Conceptual framework of the state-political coexistence of Czechs and Slovaks. 4. Czechoslovaki – historic breakthrough in the social, economic and national life of Slovaks. 5. Slovak aspect in the interior and foreign policy of the common state. 6. Ambitions of the Slovak statehood (Slovak State 1939-1945) 7. Everyday life in Slovakia (traditions and the process of modernization) 8. Slovaks in Bohemia, Czechs in Slovakia (important personalities of political, economic, cultural and military history).
