- Prerequisites
- The basic knowledge from the high school geography, geology and biology is assumed as well as basics from the terminology used in these subjects. The simultaneous study of geology and geomorphology for future geography teachers is an advantage.

- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is to present the basic information about the past of the Earth`s landscapes. The brief introduction into the selected research methods of the Earth`s past will be given. Students have to understand the importance of the knowledge about the landscape past for the present and the future of the territory. A proposal how to present this knowledge to secondary stage school pupils will be given in order to make them able to understand the subject. Students are able to distinguish essential stages in the evolution of the planet Earth, then describe key events, interpret their significance for the present. They are also able to transform acquired knowledge into geographic education using an attractive way.

- 1. Historical geographical disciplines in the widest understanding: paleogeographical studies of natural landscapes, historical geography and history of geography, historical aspects of sciences.
- 2. Metods and technologies for study of Earth`s past.
- 3. The past of Earth`s landscapes:
- 3.1 The world in Precambrium.
- 3.2 The world in Lower Paleozoicum.
- 3.3 The world in Upper Paleozoicum.
- 3.4 The world in Lower Mezozoicum.
- 3.5 The world in Upper Mezozoicum.
- 3.6 The world in Tertiary period.
- 3.7 The world in Quaternary period.
- 4. Landscape as a heritage.
- 5. Paleogeographical aspects of education on secondary schools as a part geographical curriculum and standards.

- Lectures.
- Assessment methods
- Lectures accompanied with pictorial presentations, individual study and completing individual semestral thesis. Theme can be chosen based on discussed subjects in class room. The subject is successfully passed after the semetral thesis is delivered and examination test written. For completing this course successfully, it is necessary to pass a writen test, min 10,5 marks (ten questions, a max. 2 marks each).
