Course objectives
This course presents Lexicology as a multilevel discipline, describes the fields of interest of these levels and defines main lexicological units. In the focus is German word formation and the stylistic value of German lexical units.
At the end of the course the students should know about the basic fields of lexicology, they can answer question dealing with changes in a word-stock, they can characterise the elements of a lexicon; they are able to analyse complex lexical units and characterize their elements. Further on they know the principles of the German word formation and can compare this with the word formation of the Czech and other European languages. The students are also able to describe the stylistic stratification of the German word stock and to characterize the stylistic value of several context-bound lexical units.
