- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to 1) enhance language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and systems (vocabulary and grammar) by means of up-to-date topics related to education, school, teaching career and academic sphere to achieve level B2; 2) acquire specialist terminology for individual disciplines; 3) develop students' academic skills: (Master's thesis abstract and literature review.)
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, the student will be able to: - understand spoken LSP texts at B2 level of the CEFR; - understand written LSP texts at B2 level of the CEFR; - produce a discursive essay; - produce a Master's thesis abstract and literature review; - successfully participate in a spoken interaction dealing with relevant LSP issues at B2 level of the CEFR; - use selected specialist terminology with natural and sophisticated control; - show a good command of selected grammar structures at B2 level of the CEFR.

- TOPICS: 1) Research and science. 2) Writing a thesis abstract and literature review. 3) Education and technology. 4) Personality types; Multiple intelligences. 5) Teachning gifted and talented students. 6) Teaching students with specific learning difficulties. GRAMMAR: Conditionals; Articles; Countable and uncountable nouns, Quantifiers; some, any, no…; Reported speech; Sentence transformations III; Prepositional phrases; Phrasal verbs.

- Teaching methods
- Weekly ninety-minute seminars designed for teaching English for specific and academic purposes- activities developing students' awarness of language skills and systems within B2 level - listening and reading tasks; grammar and vocabulary practice, discussions and other speaking activities, e-learning for acquiring specialist terminology and practising grammar etc.
- Assessment methods
- Credit requirements: 1) Attendance (only two classes can be missed due to personal reasons), home preparation for classes, active participation in classes; 2) Submitted in-term assignments: Master's thesis abstract + literature review of Master's thesis sources in English; 3) Exam: 2 parts: A) written (parts: listening, reading comprehension, use of English, writing, terminology); level B2. Total: 70 marks; PASS MARK = 65 % (45 points). B) Oral – A) monologue + B) spoken interaction between two students. Total: 30 marks; PASS MARK = 65 % (20 marks). Only those students who have successfully passed a written part can sit for an oral part of the exam!
