Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire some difficult grammatical phenomena in Russian, to deepen the knowledge of Russian language stylistics, to expand the vocabulary and to develop the communication skills of the students. Attention is also paid to the training of translation from Russian into Czech language and vice versa.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able:
to discuss the conversational topics;
to express their views with using a new vocabulary;
to apply grammatical and stylistic knowledge of the Russian language in written and verbal communication;
to translate from Russian into Czech on the topics discussed.
Syllabus
  • 1. Trip to Russia. The verb of motion.
  • 2. Regions of Russia and Czech Republic: known and unknown. The verb of motion with prefixes.
  • 3. Russian and Czech national cuisine. The grammatical forms of the verbs есть, пить and their derivatives.
  • 4. In the restaurant. Expression of modalities in Russian.
  • 5. A healthy lifestyle. Verbal ties different from Czech.
  • 6. Visit to a doctor. Russian verbs "boleť - lečitsa - vyzdoroveť".
  • 7. My house. Irregular pairs of Russian verbs.
  • 8. Housework. Apartment repair, moving.
  • 9. Social sphere. Irregular forms of nouns.
  • 10. Provision of services. Expression of time.
  • 11. Shopping, sales and discounts. Declension of numerals.
  • 12. Revision.

Teaching methods
Seminar, class discussion on given topics, homework, group projects within the areas discussed, reading and listening of Russian texts.
Assessment methods
Credit includes two parts:
a) Written test (75% of correct anwers is needed to pass).
b) Oral part: the discussion with the teacher, the reading (Russian book(s) – 350 p.) and the listening (Russian movie). The student will also bring a vocabulary exercise book, which will contain at least 50 new words.

Grammar accuracy, content and used vocabulary, correct pronunciation and the use of correct intonation structures are evaluated.
