- The only prerequisites are an interest in the subject and a fast Internet connection. The course is suitable for both beginners and advanced students (not for native speakers, though).

- Course objectives
- The course covers a wide range of activities - from basic grammar through exercises designed to extend vocabulary, listening skills, reading authentic texts, to work in discussion fora. Written and/or spoken discussion forums may be chosen (via Zoom or MS Teams). These forums are mandatory and students may influence their contents and negotiate the topics they are interested in discussing with their moderators. There are also many other activities students can choose from: translation or transcription of subtitles to videos of their own choice (Amara.org), creating new exercises of various types, creating educational quizzes (Kahoot), Ted Talks, Khan Academy (students can choose the topics they are interested in), Minecraft activities, experiential (spoken) simulation games, Book Club, writing activities (Twine), videos from EnglishCentral.com, discussion forums accompanying webinars on hoe to learn foreign languages effectively. We keep adding new exercises and activities so that there is a wide variety of activities for all levels.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to:
- adequately react to a post of their moderator or fellow student in the discussion forum;
- correct the language of their post based on their moderator's feedback;
- write a short piece of text in English (minimum: 50 words);
- if interested, they will be able to create a new exercise to practice English for their fellow students;
- if interested, they will be able to take part in a synchronous online discussion; - Syllabus
- Students work individually in various language learning activities throughout the term. They have an opportunity to discuss various topics in the discussion fora of the course, in which students of various fields of study from various MUNI faculties (and also generations) participate. - Assessment methods
- The whole course is taught only online. The credit requirements are as follows:
completion of the Placement test and of the exercise "How to work in the course" and joining an appropriate seminar group;
achievement of 1,000 points in a variety of activities by certain dates (there are three deadlines in the course of the semester);
achievement of 65 points (out of these 1,000 points) through seminar group discussions by certain dates (the same three deadlines);
completion of the Final Test and the Final Questionnaire at the end of the semester - Language of instruction

Students are requested to secure a good internet connection in order to participate in the course. Students must attend meetings with both the sound and camera on if they want to take part in the speaking activities in Online A. Do not enter the course otherwise than through the main syllabus. You would miss important information on the course requirements and many of the materials.
