- Course objectives
- Musical folklore traditions are an important part of the cultural heritage of each nation, which is maintained by a purposeful care in schools and educational institutions. These efforts are significantly supported by activities and recommendations of UNESCO. The teachers and educators play an important part in this process. Doctoral students acquire basic knowledge of ethnomusicological research, basic knowledge of music and folklore traditions especially on Czech territory. The students will be well informed about issues in the wider cultural contexts, between different types and genres of music or other types of art. They should be able to apply musical folklore problems in the musical and aesthetic education.
- Learning outcomes
- - doctoral student acquires knowledge about ethnomusicological research (terminology, characteristics, classification); - is able to specify different types of songs with respect to their musical characteristics, content, functional links; - is able to differentiate the types of instrumental groups and arrangements; - is able to find relations between different types and genres of folk and artificial music or other types of art; - is able to detect folklore sources in artificial music, different compositions, artworks; - is able to apply the folklore elements in the musical and aesthetic education.
- Syllabus
- Content of subject is focused on basic knowledge of ethmomusicological research (terminology, characteristics, classification). Special attention will be paid to folklore traditions on Czech territory. The students get to know the different species and types of songs with respect to their musical characteristics, content, functional links. They get to know the issue of application of the various folk instruments etc. They will be informed about problems in wider cultural contexts, between different types and genres of music or other types of art. The students will identify inspirational sources coming from the folklore roots. The resulting attention will be paid to improving ability of application of musical folklore elements in the musical and aesthetic education.

- Assessment methods
- Doctoral student shall draw up analytical essay with application of ethnomusicological konwledge (15 pp.), including the literature and footnotes. This essay can be oriented to dissertation of the student. The student proves in the examination his/her knowledge of ethnomusicological problems, issues of folklore traditions on Czech territory, abbility of application of knowledge in educational procsess.
