Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with Czech morphology, to explain to them functional and formal morphology, to explain terms such as morph, afix and part of speech, to explain morphological categories.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able: 1. to understand and explain: fundamental terms - morphology, morpheme, morph, grammatical structure of the word, criterion of the word sorts classification; 2. to distinguish the grammatical category of the nouns and of the verbs, inflected word sorts; 3. to use grammatical forms, their variants; 4. to explain the tendency of the contemporary Czech morphology. The students get fundamental knowledge and competence of the contemporary Czech morphology.

  • 1. Morphology - fundamental terms.
  • 2. Functional and formal morphology.
  • 3. Word sorts and their classification.
  • 4. Grammatical category of the nouns.
  • 5. Grammatical category of the verbs.
  • 6. Declination of the substantives, adjectives, pronouns and numerals.
  • 7. Conjugation.
  • 8. Uninflected words.

Teaching methods
A seminar - active analytical students´ work in the analysis of texts, active synthetic students´ work in the interpretation of linguistic phenomena, problem method, controlled discussion
Assessment methods
Students do homework, compulsory attendance. Written test and oral examination. Written test consists of 20 questions evaluated by 20 points. Each student has to reach minimum 16 points to pass the test. Oral examination. It includes theoretical themen of the course. The student decides by lot one question. The answers are evaluated according to the correctness and to the speech cultivation, too. There are three attempts to complete the subject: if you complete the test on the first attempt, you have three for an oral exam. If you complete the test on the second attempt, you have two for an oral exam. If you complete the test for the third attempt, you have one for an oral exam.
