Course objectives
The aim of the course English for Special Educators I is to develop harmoniously students’ language and professional skills through a series of tasks to be completed throughout the semester. The tasks are set at the B1 level (CEFR) and target the following areas: - Use of English and specialist vocabulary - Awareness of the language-learning process - Formal email writing - Presenting and giving feedback - Understanding a specialist video and commenting on it.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the students will be able to: understand spoken as well as written specialist language at B1 level of the CEFR; successfully participate in a spoken interaction dealing with relevant special needs issues; show a good command of selected grammar structures and specialist vocabulary at B1 level of the CEFR; introduce themselves/their field of study/professional goals; present an activity to colleagues.

Teaching methods
This course is a combination of 5 consultations during the semester and self-study. The class activities and tasks seek to develop students' language skills and competencies. Some of the activities are class and group discussions, vocabulary practice, mind mapping, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments, etc.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: 1) Active participation in the consultations (only 1 absence is allowed) 2) Careful preparation for each consultation 3) Students must complete all the tasks during the semester and gain at least 70% of the total points (49 out of 70 points). - Language learning journey (10 points) - Grammar ROPOTs (5x = 5 points) - Vocabulary ROPOTs (5x = 5 points) - Formal email (5 points) - Recorded presentation (15 points) - Reaction to a colleague's presentation (2x = 4 points) - Shared good practice demonstration (10 points) - Discussion forum post and reaction (16 points) 4) Oral exam - students need to gain at least 70 % to pass the exam (21 out of 30 points) - Introduction - Reflection on the language learning journey and the tasks - Special needs issue of personal interest - Article mediation

General note: Zápis vyžaduje úspěšné absolvování vstupního testu JVk001 (obvykle v lednu). Výuka probíhá v angličtině. Kurz je ukončen písemnou a ústní zkouškou na úrovni B1.
