Course objectives
Students will be able to use their knowledge of literary genres, movements and literary pieces of selected authors in the development of Russian literature of the 19th and of the 20th centuries.This subject offers the students an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the history of Russian literature. It extends and also systematises present knowledge of significant events in Russian literary life in a certain period.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to explain the development of literary trends and movements in the particular period of Russian literature. They will be able to analyse the style of outstanding literary personalities of the period. They will be able to interpret literary pieces.
Syllabus
  • Russian classicism, sentimentalism and romanticism.
  • Russian realism and critical realism
  • So-called "Silver Age literature" - symbolism, akmeism, futurism, imaginism
  • Specifics of literature after 1917
  • Russian prose in the late 20th century (Periodization, specifics, famous representatives and their works Poetry 60s - 80s. So-called singing poetry, Russian rock poetry Key topics of Russian prose of the second half of the century)
  • Russian postmodernism
