Course objectives
The course is dealing with mediating knowledge and competences of Theatre studies, that usually listed courses of DTS don't cover or from close fields of studies (for example performance studies, theory of another arts etc.). The aim of the course is also to allow students insight into different research methods and to improve their language skills.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student will:
- have wider notion of theatrological reasearch possibilities;
- know different methodologies of research in humanities;
- also be able to apply them;
- be able to understand expert lecture in English and talk about given topic.
Syllabus
  • Exhibiting living / Living at exhibiting
  • In 20 century world and state exhibitions become important medium and tool of politics of living. Course will discuss vizual and performative aspects of exhibition as medium of political and social action and exhibition as specific metaphor influencing culture of living.
  • Important part will be comparing of culte and politics of living in Poland and former Czechoslovakia.
  • Kurz will be divided into three parts:
  • I) State and world exhibitions as medium and its changes in 20 century. Culture of living in Czechoslovakia.
  • II) Culture and politics of living in interwar and postwar Poland
  • III) „Dům bytové kultury” or the end of utopia of living. (Seminar based on Havel's play Vernisáž/Private view, selected issues of journal „Domov”/Home)
