Course objectives
This lecture has a selective character. It sees the music baroque as a problem and understands it within the development tendencies in the art of 17th and the 1st half of 18th centuries. That is why this lecture is an interdisciplinary one. The emphasis is on the relations among various kinds of art, the main interest is however in music. The lecture follows the development of opera, instrumental music, oratorio and cantata. The common opinion that the development is concentrated in so called "schools" is criticised. In detail the lecture deals with the following personalities: C. Monteverdi, A. and D. Scarlatti, J. S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, G. F. Händel, Chr. W. Ritter von Gluck.
