- Course objectives
- An overview of major concepts in contemporary film theory related to film spectatorship. This course focuses on the relation between the film medium, its aesthetic possibilities and practices, and the forms of film reception. The course will explore questions of film spectatorship above all from the perspective of recent film history (Gunning, Musser, Tsivian, Hansen, Elsaesser) which emphasizes the significance of the entire cinema experience for the process by which films convey meaning, pleasure, and subjectivity.
