- Course objectives
- Course description. The relationship between the two sciences is presented from the point of view of literary science, i.e. how is literary science connected with the problems aesthetics is dealing with, what can aesthetics provide literary science with, how can more general statesments of aesthetics help in more particular problems literary science is trying to solve. In the lecture there will also be mentioned areas, where aesthetics and literary science intersect or touch, some basic terms of aesthetics will be presented in greater detail as well as problems concerning ontology and epistemology of the work of art together with the specifics of artistic communication.

- 1. Aesthetics - temptation and challenge. 2. Attempts to define aesthetics. 3. The main theses and contradictions of European aesthetic thinking in the works of Plato, Aristotle and Kant. 4. The symbiosis of aesthetics and philosophy. 5. Mimesis and poiesis. 6. Realism and reality; truth and semblance; the plurality world - reference; semantics of possible worlds. 7. Aesthetic reference and aesthetic attitude. 8. Possible ways of reading. 9. Experience of the "other" and aesthetic transcending. 10. New formulation of old theses and contradictions. 11. Aesthetic positivism vs. Russian formalist school. 12. "What is poetry like?" 13. The understanding of aesthetic object by Ingarden and Czech structuralism. 13. Value and evaluation. 14. Hermeneutics. 15. Structuralism and poststructuralism.
