- Course objectives
- Language and philosophy, ontological and epistemological aspects of language. To the relation of language, consciousness and mind - philosophy of mind. Hermeneutical and analytical approach to language. Mental discourse (T. Hobbes). The relation of languages and ideas, the concept of language in British empiricism and continental rationalism (J. Locke, G. Berkeley, R. Descartes). N. Chomsky and Cartesian linguistics. The concept of language in German hermeneutics of the Romantic period (J. G. Herder). W. von Humboldt's philosophy of language. The conception of language in British analytical philosophy (G. E. Moore, A. J. Ayer). The problematique of observation sentences. Vienna Circle (R. Carnap, M. Schlick). Language games and speech acts (L. Wittgenstein, P. Winch, J. L. Austin,J. R. Searle). The problem of discourse and language event by P. Ricoeur. H.-G. Gadamer's philosophy of language.
