Course objectives
Basic information about the sub-ethnic groups of the Roma people living in the Czech Republic, introduction to the Roma lifestyle and culture (the Roma family and its relationships, ceremonies and rituals, customs, music and oral tradition and folklore, music*, traditional Romany crafts, professions and jobs, folk magic and healing, religion etc.) and cross-section of the history of the Roma (their origins, migration from their homeland India to Europe, their stay in the Byzantine empire, expansion in Europe, relationships with Europeans and causes of their changes, resulting in constant banishment and persecution; the first mentions of their presence in our territory, the assimilation efforts of the Empress Mary Theresa, settlement of the Roma in Moravia, their position in the Czechoslovak Republic, The Second Republic and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the red solution of so-called Gypsy question in 1945-1967, the ethno-emancipatory movement in 1968-69 and foundation of The Association of the Gypsies - the Roma, the program of integration in 1970-1989 and the situation after 1989, mosaic of current trends and the concept of Romany integration), monitoring attitudes and approaches of majority society.
