Course objectives
Elementary information about purposes and methods of language classification. Three approaches: typological, areal and genetic. Principles of lexicostatistics and glottochronology. Systematical overview of all language families with the most important languages, classified genetically in higher taxonomical units.

  • Principles and methods of the linguistics research. Elementary information about purposes and methods of language classification. Three approaches: typological, areal and genetic. Essential compendium of the World's languages [Celts lang., Caucasian lang., Slavic lang. etc.]. Systematical overview of all language families with the most important languages, classified genetically in higher taxonomical units. Principles of lexicostatistics and glottochronology.
