- Course objectives
- The seminar is targeted at enhancing of the methodology knowledge of students for specialist and scientific work in the primeval archaeology branch, at the preparation for the second seminary work, discussions of topical issues of the current Bohemian and Central European prehistory, and last not least for training of a scientific paper delivery, speech performance, and a scientific discussion.
- Syllabus
- A/ The methodological training includes the following topics: - Theory and general methods of scientific cognition - Strategy of scientific work in archaeology (prospection, excavation, analysis of archaeological sources, formulation of the analysis results, literary output, other possible outputs) - Special methods of scientific cognition in prehistory - History of the European archaeology with a focus on the individual stages of the discipline (the antiquarian approach; Renaissance; romanticism; rationalism; positivism; Marxism; neo-positivism; structuralism; existentialism; processualism; post-processualism) - Significant archaeological and pre-historical schools in Europe B/ The current topics of the contemporary Bohemian and Central European archaeology are renewed on an annual basis. The most frequently found are: - Contemporary Western-European landscape (spatial) archaeology - Outcomes of aerial archaeology in Europe in the recent years - Archaeogeophysical prospecting (hitherto outcomes and experience) - Demography of the primeval era - “Archaeology of hunger and thirst” - Barter or trade in the primeval era? - Human sacrifices in the primeval era - “Acoustic archaeology”: reality or utopia? - Is it possible to cultivate bible archaeology also in Central Europe? - Ship transport in primeval Europe - Chariot and harness in the primeval era - Time records and primeval lists of events - Faith healing; paleopathology; hallucinogens - Agriculture in the primeval era - Communication techniques in the primeval era - Outcomes of the “rondel archaeology” in Europe - Possibilities, advantages and limits of “computer archaeology” - Warcraft in the primeval era - Clothing in the primeval era - Phenomenology of primeval cultic (sacral) items - Issues of eschatology.

- Requirements for the course-unit credit: an adequately active participation at the seminars; presentation of a paper on a set current topic in the Autumn term; references on the preparation or results of the second seminary work in the Spring term; presentation of the second seminary work on a set topic in the determined extent and the due quality.
