- Course objectives
- The course links to the themes of lectures, which increases and elaborates the form of comments and presented papers prepared by students.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction and entering of individual papers (including the recommended literature).
- 2. The Roman-provincial architecture of the North-Pannonian border in Slovakia and close parts of Hungary (topography, excavations and finds of the sites: Gerulata-Rusovce, Čunovo, Jarovce, Iža-Leányvár, Brigetio).
- 3. The most important Roman style buildings in the forland of North-Pannonian frontier (sites Stupava, Dúbravka, Cífer-Pác, Devín, Mušov - Burgstall).
- 4. Roman building techniques, bricks and evidence of Roman architecture in Middle European Barbaricum. New discovered Roman temporary camps (Mušov, Modřice, Olomouc-Neředín, Hulín). Roman warfare and Roman military finds.
- 5. Main groups of Roman-provincial finds (metal vesssels, glassware, pottery, coins, jewellery).
- 6. Important personalities and historical events of the Roman period. The settlement structure and the settlements of the Roman period.
- 7. Burial practices and rites in the Roman period, examples the most important cremateted burial grounds.
- 8. Economy of Germanic tribes (Suebi) and the influence of Roman culture in the middle European Barbaricum.
- 9. Inhumation graves in Germania Libera. Graves of Lübsow/Lubieszewo and Leuna-Hassleben types.
- 10. Settlement of Middle European Barbaricum in the decline of Roman period and at the beginning of the Migration period.
- 11. Early Migration period (settlements, graves, finds). 12. Cemeteries and burial rites of the Migration period in the Middle European Barbaricum and theme of craftsmen graves.
