- Course objectives
- Main objectives of the course can be summarized as follows:
to learn the historical background of the developement of the roman linerary frontier on the european territory; to understand the mechanism of erection and function of the Roman Limes; to learn the basic forms of the Roman military architecture on the limites of the empire; to explore the most important Roman military camps on the frontiers of the provinces Britannia, Germania Inferior and Superior, Raetia, Noricum, Pannonia Superior and Inferior, Moesia Superior and Inferior and Dacia. - Syllabus
- Historical background and conditions of the development of the Roman frontiers in the northern european provinces of the Roman empire.
- Roman military strategy during the control of different parts of the frontiers.
- Types of military objects on the frontiers.
- Forms of fortifications and internal buildings of the roman camps.
- Limes Romanus in Britannia, Germania Inferior and Superior, Raetia, Noricum, Pannonia Superior and Inferior, Moesia Superior and Inferior and Dacia.
- So-called military settlements.
- Introduction into the problematic of material culture of the Roman limes.
