Course objectives
The main content of the course are selected themes of the ancient Greek literature, that have been explored recently and could not be explained in the courses History of the Classical Literature I-IV due to the shortage of time.
At the end of this course, students should have a thorough knowledge of the selected topics of the ancient Greek literature.

  • 1.-3. Homeric hymns and their interpretation in the light of new papyrological discoveries
  • 4.-5. Antigona of Sophocles
  • 6.-7. Filoctetes of Sophocles
  • 8.-9. Alcestis of Euripides
  • 10.-11. Ion of Euripides
  • 12.-13. Euripides` influence on the New Comedy and the ancient novel
