Course objectives
The course is designed to teach students about the shaping of the Byzantine-Slavonic and Church-Slavonic cultural and literary traditions in Slovakia and in the East-Carpathian region. The lectures are dedicated to some of the most recent problems of linguistic, literary, cultural and historical development of the Cyrillic creation in the milieu of the Byzantine-Slavonic rite. Questions of Cyrillic legacy in other religious and folk literary genres in Slovakia and in the East-Carpathian region are also included.
Syllabus
  • a) The two traditions concerning the origins of the Byzantine-Slavonic rite in our region; b) a survey of the history of the Byzantine-Slavonic Church in Slovakia and in the East Carpathian region; c) theological, catechetic and paraliturgical literature in the Chruch Slavonic language.

Assessment methods
The course has a form of a lecture and a class discussion. During the course, students must write an essay on a previously selected topic.Final Project.
