LJBcA04zk Exam in Latin Grammar
Thorough knowledge of Latin (in extend of the B. A. State Exam in Latin Language and Literature, but the exam itself is not required).

Course objectives
Main objectives of the course can be summarized as follows:
- to get an overwiew of the Latin literary production in Europe from the late antiquity (with special regard to patristics) to 11th century
- to remember some specific features of medieval literature
- to become familiar with following genres: hagiography, historiography, secular and sacred lyrics
Syllabus
  • 1) The most important genres of Medieval Latin literature and their development
  • 2) Specific features of medieval literature
  • 3) Preconditions of literary development in the late Roman period
  • 4) Overview of Latin patristics
  • 5) So called interim period in different parts of Europe
  • 6) 9th-10th century - Carolingian and Ottonian Renaissance
  • 7) 11th century - the beginnings of flowering of medieval Latin literature

Lecture. Oral examination: students should prove knowledge of literary development in overview, stages of development, genres and authors.
