- Course objectives
- The lecture is focused on aproaches used in syntactic analysis, on types and modalities in simple sentences, on types of paragraphs and the position of sentences. Sentence elements, importance and posotion in the sentence. Problems of word order and the analysis of speech.
- Syllabus
- Analysis of the following terms: "phrase", "énoncé", "énonciation".
- Processes used in syntactic analysis – substitution, commutation.
- Independent clause: types and modality.
- Compound sentences – according to clause position - juxtaposition, coordinating, subordinate, correlative.
- Clause structure - "groupe nominal", "groupe verbal".
- The issue of French word order - inversion, dislocation, "détachement", "mise en relief".
- Analysis and typology of utterances (direct, indirect and semi-direct speech).
- Functional sentence perspective.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture: exposition and definitions of basic terms and their exemplification on different types of specific text (recordings), proceeding from diverse registers. Seminar: application of theoretical knowledge on authentic texts (recordings). During their presentations students show their ability to interconnect on their own their theoretical knowledge and practical analysis of a specific text.

- Credit – written test. Lecture attendance is not mandatory.
