- The course aims at providing students with a critical-philological approach to ancient text.

- The course is an introduction to Medieval religious literature:

- Reading of the "Life of the desert fathers", and "Dialogo di santo Gregorio" in the vernacular version of Domenico Cavalca. Basics of the historical development of the language and historical grammar. Basics of Italian philology. Reading of manuscripts.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture: description of the literary field, explanation and definition of basic notions and their demonstration on concrete texts by concrete authors. Seminar: Application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text.
