- Course objectives
- The harmony course III leads students to be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in previous harmony courses. It gives basis to harmonic analysis of music and connects practical skills with the theoretical frame of the subject. A student will be able to analyze harmonic details in pieces from barocco to the 20.century and put it to the context of knowledge about development of harmony.
- Syllabus
- 1. Harmonic analysis - chordal and non-chordal phenomena
- 2. Possibilities of harmonic marking in harmonic analysis of the 20th century
- 3. Function harmony, Stufentheorie and their influence on tractates by Czech authors
- 4. Harmonic thinking in the metamorphoses of time, harmonic analysis directed on study of individual harmonic phenomena
- 5. Possibilities of application of knowledge in traditional harmony (music semiotics etc.)

- The subject is in a form of a seminar, uses presentations, group projects and class discussions.
- Assessment methods
- Seminar. Written essay (1-3 normal pages) including an analysis of the given composition and a series of sopranos harmonizations. Oral exam - compulsory literature.
