- Define the basic operatic terms related to the 19th century
Explain the relations of individual national and programmatic schools
Formulate opinions and conclusions on different issues related to the 19th century music and operatic genres (grand opéra, op=ra lyrique, opera buffa/seria, drama giocoso, Gesamtkunstwerk)
Interpret texts by Wagner, Hanslick, Asafiev
Analyse works by Rossini, Verdi and Wagner
Characterize creative poetics of Italian, German and Russian opera - Syllabus
