Course objectives
This course is a continuation of Grammar VP I (CJQB04). Complex practice of Czech grammar, focus is put on reviewing Czech declension system and Czech conjugation, verbal constructions, aspectual prefixes and differences between verbs with different prefixes. The aim of the course is to intensify and improve the knowledge that was obtained in CJQB04, then mastering correct expressing (spoken and written), that bases on understanding ortographical and grammatical phenomena.
Syllabus
  • 1/ The course bases on texts that were read. Students prepare summary of the texts and they work on these texts (exercises). 2/ Declension system and conjugation will be practised in the exercises. 3/ Adverbs – comparison (connected with comparison of adjectives). 4/ Syntax – coordination – determination, conjunctions, direct and indirect speech; word-order. 5/ Verbs – aspectual prefixes, differences between verbs with different prefixes; prefixal verbs with opposite meaning; prefixal verbs created from phrases. 6/ There is a short written test for every class („revision lesson“).

Teaching methods
Theoretical explanations during courses will be supplemented by grammar exercises (both in class and as homework), summarizing both oral and written texts. Each of the texts used for the summaries will be supplemented with grammar exercises. Course work: under the direction of a teacher, in groups.
Assessment methods
Final written test. Besides the test, the following rules must be observed: 1/ In order to successfully finish the course, student's participation in the course must be at least 75 %. If student's participation drops below 75 %, he will not be allowed to write the final test. 2/ The students fullfils all tasks given by the teacher (homeworks, presentations etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence. 3/ Students must not switch study groups, unless the Head of Department of Czech for Foreigners explicitly approved it.
