Course objectives
Aim of this subject is to publish each semester TIM – a scholary magazine about new media and culture. At the end of this course students will be able to write scholarly essays and to use editorial system. Students will be able to create hypertext, multi-media articles. Students will be capable to critically analyse texts (as for their concept, content and stylistics) they will be able to work as a part of editorial team.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduce the theme of the following issue of TIM – a scholarly magazine. What is the aim of a technical on-line magazine? What are the requirements for (scholarly) hypertext? How can we increase the readability? Students will read reccomended technical articles and choose the themes for their own articles.
  • 2. How to writte a good headline, annotation, perex, appendix. Secondary headlines create thematical structure of an article. 3. Introduction to text structure: theme introduction, text interpretation and analysis, evaluation, conclusion. Students write 1st.version of an article.
  • 4. Bibliographic citation, the list of used literature, citation, definition of technical terms. Why are necessary? Students write 2nd version of their articles.
  • 5. What criteria uses an editor to evaluate an article? What is review procedure? What are the main things to concentrate on correction (proofreading)? Reading your own article critically and with distance. Evaluation of articles. Chosing the articles which will be published.
  • 6. Deadline. How can we attract readers? Public relations activities. Understanding attendance statistics. Publishing chosen articles using editorial system.

Teaching methods
Teaching takes the form of workshops where students learn the process of publishing scholarly periodicals online. 
 In the practical part of teaching and the self-study students gradually working on their articles from concept to proof.
Assessment methods
Evaluation of one article or multimedia work, evaluation of one peer review or editorial work on one article. Graded credit.
