- Course objectives
- An overview of the history of Polish poetry and drama from 1956 till 2000. The course contains information about the period, the literary epochs, trends, schools and authors, with an analysis of genres and specific works and also leads toward a knowledge of written forms of expression within the given issues. Main aims of the course are: to understand development of the Polish literature of that period; to understand the most prominent representatives of the Polish literature of post-war years.

- 1. Literature in Poland after the Second World War.
- 2. Tadeusz Różewicz – precursor of the avant-garde in poetry and drama.
- 3. The characteristics of the period between 1945 and 1956.
- 4. The political “thaw” in 1953-1956.
- 5. Contemporary Polish poetry.
- 6. Zbigniew Herbert – the poet and essayist, author of plays and radio dramas.
- 7. Nobel Prize winners Czesław Miłosz (1980) and Wisława Szymborska (1996).
- 8. The developement of Polish inter-war drama.
- 9. The most important plays of Sławomir Mrożek.
- 10. "New Wave" and Stanisław Barańczak.
- 11. Polish Heritage and poetry of the 1980s.
- 12. Poetry after the Breakthrough.
- 13. The So-called "brulion" Generation.
