- Course objectives
- The course offers the basic survey of the Slovakian history and the culture. It covers the time span from prehistoric period up to the present moment. The main goal lies in presenting to students the main lines of the historic and the cultural development of Slovakia and the Slovaks with the respect to the West-Slavonic and Middle-European context. Participants are, last but not least, acquainted with the cultural map of Slovakia, with regional and ethnical characteristics of the country and, too, with the important places of the Slovakian history and the culture.

- Lecture and seminar block:
- I Slovakia in geographical space of Europe. Slovakian history and history of Slovakia. The space, territory, form of state, ethnic and social identity.
- Slovakia in the Slavonic space of European continent: attributes, peculiarities, similarities.
- II Slovakian folk culture and forming of national culture.
- Folk culture and its relations with national literature, context of Slavonic studies.
- III Slovakian Fine Art and music. Semi-professional Art, personalities
- Slovakian folk culture and Fine Art, Music: touches; inspirations, personalities, introduction into the supranational level
- IV Slovakian culture and its linguistic tools
- Language in history of national culture, intercommunity and society: specificity of Slovakian context, personalities
- V Slovakian culture and theatre: relations, intermingling, national identity and drama
- History and typology of the theatre in the terms of intellectual and esthetic patterns in the history, personalities
- VI Nation “home” and “abroad”: history, paradigms, causes, consequences, personalities
