- The aim of the course is to achieve the B2 level (based on the Common giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.European Framework of Reference) of English language competence.
At the end of the course students can listen to the radio and watch documentary films, they should understand lexturs and the main ideas of relatively complex text on both concrete and academic/professional topics, including discussions in their field of specialisation; can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party; can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of academic/professional subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue The course is focused on academic skills and professional language.
During the course all language skills will be practised (listening, reading, speaking, writing). Other material is used - authentic texts. - Syllabus

- Job search, the labour market - vocabulary related to movement and body positions; pronoun adverbs.
- Analysis of journalistic texts - journalistic jargon.
- Political institutions - past tenses.
- Environment - sequence of tenses.
- Immigration policy in Russia - subjunctive, morphology.
- Culture in Russia - prepositions of time.
- Stylistic language registers - expressing slang and informal language.
- Analysis of journalistic texts - vocabulary of quantity and measurment units.

- One two-lesson seminar every week. Regular practical training of oral and written knowledge. Additional practice. Widening the lexicon – translations. Deepening the knowledge of realia – by a form of a paper.
