Course objectives
Students will become familiar with the history of Czech philosophical thought and Czech culture their major figures, they will be able to interpret historical philosophical texts and situate them in historical context, as well as in the context of European and World philosophy.

  • Czech humanism, J. A. Comenius.
  • Czech philosophy after 1620, Czech Enlightenment (B. Bolzano).
  • F. Palacký, the conflict about German philosophy.
  • Czech Hegelianism, Czech herbartism.

Written exam from the history of Czech philosophy from Middle Ages until 1968.

Huss and Wycliffe.
Comenius and natural philosophy.
Bolzano.
Palacký.
a) Czech hegelianism; b) Czech herbartism; c) Czech positivism.
Masaryk´s conception of the crisis of modern man.
Czech philosophy in the 20th century - positivism, idealism, structuralism, phenomenology, marxism.
Part of the exam is a written test in assigned readings.
