Course objectives

The basic concepts of epigraphy, the development of Latin letters, institutions of the Roman state; epigraphic Greek; reading and interpretation of writings, primarily, sepulchral, votive and military; basic aids and their use.

Syllabus

• Basic terminology of epigraphy.
• Development of latin script.
• Forms of latin names.
• Institutions of the Roman state especially in the period of principat.
• Cursus honorum.
• Structure of the Roman army and the provincial-roman administration.
