- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the development of Arabic literature from its beginnings to the masterpieces of the classical period. The lectures will be dedicated to old Arabic poetry, early Islamic prose, poetry and prose works during Ummayad, Abbasids, Fatimids and Mamluk Era. Quran will be presented as an important monument of Arabic literature, traditional Arabic prose and poetry genres will be studied and also the specificities of literary creation in Andalusia. Students will deal also with Arab folk literature and with most important works of the Arab-Islamic scientific thought in the Middle Ages.
Students will read selected works in Czech or Slovak translations. - Syllabus

- The course is provided as lectures and seminar completing the reading (discussion, interpretation, analysis of extracts). Some texts are available in Study Materials.

- Continuous evaluation: reading texts, active participation in discussions on analysed texts.

General note: Výuka předmětu proběhne blokově, pětkrát za semestr, vždy ve čtvrtek odpoledne a v pátek dopoledne. Konkrétní data budou upřesněna před začátkem semestru. (Předběžné termíny: 22.-23.9., 13.-14.10., 3.-4.11., 24.-25.11., 15.-16.12.).
