Course objectives
interpretating literary texts (reading, understanding and explaining) - make deductions about concepts of beauty and different aspects of decline (in period from romanticism to modernism) - answer questions - discuss about texts
Learning outcomes
use and correctly apply the professional terminology, interpretating literary texts, answer the questions to the texts and defend the answers in the discussion

  • - Aesthetics of romanticism, Apollinian and Dionysian principles, aesthetics of night (Hölderlin, Novalis) - The cult of the poet – reflexiveness, genius, dignity, grace (Schiller´s aesthetic theory) - Man and nature – love of beauty as a spiritual principle (Ruskin, Melville) - Pessimism and irony as constitutive elements of literature (Leopardi, Flaubert) - Forms of aestheticism – romanticism, dandyism (Baudelaire, Wilde) - Negative aesthetics – triumph of death? (Baudelaire, d´Annunzio) - Memory and cultural codes / nostalgy as the false representation of the past (Chekhov, Joseph Roth) - Temporality and decline (Proust, T. Mann)
