- During this course the students will learn the history of the Basque literature, until our time.

- 1. Introduction. Basque literature's boundaries and debates. Literature and Basque literature. 2. Oral literature. XVIth century. Genders and aspects. 3. Written literature, foundation. XVI-XVIIth century. Etxepare, Sara's School, Joanes Leizarraga, Axular. 4. From romanticism to costumbrismo. Euskal pizkundea. Lizardi, Lauaxeta, Aguirre. Bertsolarismo. 5. Basque literature during the Francoism. The rupture: Txillardegi, Aresti, Mirande. Social poetry and existentialist novel. Novel: Txillardegi, Saizarbitoria, Lertxundi, Urretabizkaia. Poetry: Aresti, Lete. 6. Contemporary literature. Pott Banda. Atxaga, Sarrionandia. Izagirre. Sarasola. 7. Towards a postnational literature?

- Teaching methods
- The lecture will make an introduction over different authors and movements in Basque Literature. Students will discuss different texts in class. Therefore, participation and positive attitude are essential in this subject. The students will conduct a final written individual work and they will have to demonstrate their knowledge of the literature Basque taught during the course.

- Written work (%70). Participation (%30): in addition to active participation and homework, to aim these points is essential to attend classes.
