- Course objectives
- The course presents different types of historical sources, archive evidence, press articles, as well as oral witnesses by the way of example of the chosen particular historical issues. The graduates should be able to understand historiographic approaches in interpretation of sources in the most recent part of history and distinguish them from common approaches in history.
- Syllabus
- Classification of historical sources in contemporary history. Emerging and vanishing kinds of sources.
- Principles of source-selection and source-critique. Advantages and limitations in contemporary history.
- Archiv evidence. Classification. Archives and other institutions. Accesibility of archiv evidence.
- Archiv evidence and totalitarian regimes. „Newspeak“ – understanding the language. Censoring and propaganda. Question of importance and credibility of archiv evidence in totalitarian regimes.
- Press and other media.
- Diary and memoir.
- Witness, memory and the oral history.
- Editions of sources in the contemporary history.
