- Course objectives
- The seminar focuses on the interpretation of fantastic literature in overlap to the film, serial and game adaptations. Attention will be also paid to the illustrations in the fantastic literature. Main focus will be on the concept of character, plot and style characteristic for fantastic literature, in relation to the theoretical study of these aspects we analyze problematic relationship between archetype and cliché and puts them in wider context.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to:
Interpret texts of fantastic literature;
Critically examine the fantastic elements in film and serial adaptations;
Orient themselves in the history and present of Czech illustration within fantastic literature;
Recognize a schematic and archetypal characters and plots;
Analyze typical and untypical stylistic elements of fantasy narratives. - Syllabus
