Course objectives
The course presents the development of Czech nonfiction and documentary cinema since 1989. The ourse focuses on documentary TV series, documentary feature films and also the shorts and its production system, political background and key institutions such as State Fund or IDFF Ji.hlava. At the end of the course students should be able to understand key genres of nonfiction and documentary film; distinguish its functions in nowadays; explain work of important film-makers.
Learning outcomes
After finishing this course, students will: gain basic knowledge of Czech documentary cinema production after 1989; understand the significance of local documentary cinema in broader social context; understand Czech documentary cinema as a complex social phenomenon, not only as a sequence of aesthetically exceptional films; understand relationship between production, distribution and film introduction; broaden their existing knwoledge with less-featured films.
