The course is aimed at students of the Arabic module in the Mediterranean studies programme, as well as participants enrolled in other study programmes, especially if those are of philological nature. No previous knowledge of Arabic is required for enrollment in the course. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- Throughout the course students will familiarize themselves with Arabic sounds, script and word-order, as well as with the basics of Arabic grammar and word-formation at A0-A1 level according to CEFR. The final weeks of the term will be aimed at improving the students' ability to form and respond to simple equational sentences and at enhancing their communication skills.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- write in Arabic;
- read a simple text in Arabic (vocalized and non-vocalized);
- form equational sentences in present tense;
- introduce themselves, ask and respond to simple questions about themselves;
- describe where an object or a place is. - Syllabus

- Grammar exercises, listening and responding, reading comprehension, speaking skills practice.
- Assessment methods
- Ongoing student assessment: homeworks assigned during the term and active participation in the seminars (75 % minimum is required). Final (written) examination at the end of the term.
