- Course objectives
- Main objectives of the course are:
- the deepening of knowledge of the older Czech literature by interpreting the literature of the epoch of the High humanism and Baroque;
- the clarification of the changes in the system of genres in these epochs;
- the clarification of their character in the interdisciplinary context;
- deepening of knowledge of methods of interpretation of representative texts. - Learning outcomes
- After completing the course the student will be able to:
- understand more thoroughly the specific characteristics of the older Czech literature;
- understand basic concepts and methods of the research work;
- master the working methods with main sources of information;
- understand the issues of interpretation of the development, functions and genres of older literature;
- master the principles of interpretation of the Old Czech texts. - Syllabus

- - Comenius at the turning point of the Humanism and Baroque;
- - Manualnik by Comenius;
- - Bible in the Baroque literature;
- - significant personages of the Czech literature in the 17th and 18th centuries;
- - homiletics as the basic genre of the Baroque literature;
- - questions of the Baroque art of legends;
- - literature of religious pilgrimages;
- - iconology and emblematics;
- - popular and so-called semi-popular works of the 18th century;
- - specifics of the broadside ballads.

- The lecture uses mainly the method of presentation, analysis and application of theoretical knowledge during instructive interpretations of selected texts.
- Assessment methods
- The credit is assessed by the lecturers, on the basis of a written test, drawing on the presented topics.Written examination consisting of 10 questions focusing on the basic notions of the discipline.
