- Course objectives
- The main objective of the exam is to prove the knowledge of Latin morphology, syntax and stylistics, and capability to understand Latin text and to translate it into Czech.
- Learning outcomes
- The students will be able to prove the knowledge of Latin nominal and verbal morphology (exceptions and irregular verbs included), as well as the knowledge of Latin syntax. The student will be able to distinguish the types of Latin subordinate clauses and put correctly the subjunctives. They will be familiar with Latin stylistics, idiomatic, verbal phrases and grammatical case syntax. Students will be able to understand Latin text and to translate it into Czech.
- Syllabus
- The exam consists of a written test from the Latin grammar (vol. I and II from F. Novotný, Zakladní latinská mluvnice, Praha 1957), Latin stylistics corrsponding to the course of Latin stylistics, and Latin syntax corresponding with Mikulová, Jana, Syntax latinských vedlejších vět, Brno 2014 a Kamínková, E., B. Mouchová a A. Bartoněk, Cvičebnice latinské syntaxe, 1973. Written examination consists of exercises aimed at testing advanced language skills. Minimum passing level is 70 %. Part of the exam is also translation of a Latin classical author from Latin into Czech with dictionary.
