- Course objectives
- The aim of this subject is to encourage students to undertake research over an extensive period of time abroad, preferably at a university whose experts, or principal lines of research undertaken there, promise to enhance the students' grasp of their projects and to positively impact their writing.
- Learning outcomes
- A student's stay at a foreign university will demonstrate his or her capability of undertaking research in an international academic environment. It is an ivaluable way of gaining new professional insights, a much needed international awareness and knowledge of the state of the discipline abroad. Likewise, a stay abroad gives the students an opportunity to gain feedback from international experts as well as from their peers; it represents a unique opportunity for networking. All these factors can positively impact the process of dissertation writing.
- Syllabus
- Discussion of the envisaged stay abroad with the supervisor. Selection of a suitable destination. Contacting the international partners. Application for a travel grant / fellowship. Stay abroad; while abroad the supervisee is expected to stay in touch with the supervisor. Upon return form the stay abroad a written report is submitted to the supervisor.

- Due to the specific nature of the subject no mandatory reading is required.

- Independent research, consulations with experts in foreign (partner) universities.
- Assessment methods
- Upon successful completion of the stay abroad the student submits a report to the supervisor, who grants credits to the student.

- The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
