Course objectives
Latin for the Non-latinists III follows the course Latin for the Non-latinists II and is aimed to continue learning basic Latin grammar.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to:
- reproduce by heart nominal and verbal paradigms studied in the course (see syllabus of the course);
- explain grammatical rules studied in the course;
- translate a simple coherent Latin text into Czech.
Syllabus
  • This course provides an overview of the following grammatical categories:
  • Morphology:
  • - gerund and gerundive;
  • - participles;
  • - supine.
  • Syntax:
  • - independent uses of the subjunctive mood,
  • - consecutive clauses;
  • - participle constructions;
  • - periphrastic conjugation;
  • - ablative absolute;
  • - uses of nominative in subordinate clauses;
  • - gerundive constructions.

Teaching methods
Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of lectures, practice (translation and grammar exercises). Regular class attendance and preparatory homeworks are required.
Assessment methods
Requirements for gaining colloquium: regular class attendance (75%) and passing of the written test which examines the knowledge of grammar studied during the course.
