- Course objectives
- The course combines the Czech and Anglo-American stylistics traditions. The objective is to make students understand the functional interpretation and construction of texts of both literary and non-literary character, and to distinguish a number of stylistic devices used in a number of different registers (e.g. register of newspapers and magazines, advertising, face-to-face interaction, comics etc.).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to: - understand the key concepts and definitions in stylistics; - distinguish different registers - recognize different linguistic patterns used as stylistic devices; - applying register anlysis on non-literary texts; - applying genre analysis on literary texts.

- Practical seminars. Required pre-class readings. Seminars - discussion and text analysis.

- Assessment: attendance (10 pts.) + texts submission (10 pts.) + 3 e-tests (40 pts.) + final oral presentation (40 pts.). To pass the course, the minimum score is 70 pts.
