Course objectives
Structural linguistic interpretation of the Lithuanian language system. The entire volume is divided into 2 semesters.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- to become familiar with linguistic typology;
- describe in detail the Lithuanian language from a typological point of view;
- briefly describe the development of the Lithuanian orthography;
- describe the phonological and morphological inventory of Lithuanian;
- describe the prosodic characteristics of Lithuanian.
Syllabus
  • Language typology: an introduction to linguistic typology; Skalicek's linguistic typology;  detailed typological description of Lithuanian;  typological comparison of Lithuanian and another chosen language
  • Lithuanian ortography:  terminology and basic concepts; briefly about the development of Lithuanian orthography; current Lithuanian ortography
  • Lithuanian phonology and morphonology: terminology and basic concepts (phonetics, phonology, morphonology, phonemes, phones, atc.); description of the phonological inventory
  • Lithuanian prosody: terminology and basic concepts (accent, intonation, metatony, etc.); accentuation of nouns, adjectives, pronouns and verbs;  practice - exercises on pronunciation and accentuation.
