Prerequisite for participating in the course is good knowledge of Russian alphabet (being able to read and write), the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary from the coursebook ORLOVA, Natalia, Marta VÁGNEROVÁ a Miroslava KOŽUŠKOVÁ. Klass! Ruština pro střední školy: učebnice a pracovní sešit. 2. Praha: Klett, 2011. 186 s. ISBN 978-80-7397-066-6. The student must have coursebook on seminars (at any form).

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to improve expression and communication skills both in speaking and writing and to widen the vocabulary of this East-Slavic language. The student will deepen his/her knowledge of the Russian realia (history, art, geography). The final level after the successful finishing of the course is B1 according to CEFR.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student:
– will improve his expression skills in Russian on basic topics both in written and oral forms (at B1 level);
– will improve in general his/her communication skills at all levels (reading, writing, listening, speaking);
– will improve the vocabulary;
– will deepen his/her knowledge of Russian realia (history, art, geography).
Syllabus
  • 1. Vocabulary, topic: Czechs, Czech Republic, Prague; grammar: superlative of adjectives, dative case singular of masculine substantives ended on soft consonant, dative case singular of hard adjectives, genitive case plural of masculine substantives ended on hard consonant, genitive case plural of hard adjectives and adjective хороший; phonetics: revision of reduction of unstressed vowels;
  • 2. Vocabulary, topic: feelings, description of a person, getting to know somebody, appearance of a person; grammar: sentences Он не должен быть…, У меня нет…, instrumental case singular of hard adjectives, conditional, infinitive sentences; phonetics: revision of pronunciation of hard consonants ж, ш, ц, revision of pronunciation of reflective particle -ся;
  • 3. Vocabulary, topic: jobs, professions, interview; grammar: conjugation of verbs искать, хотеть, мочь, помочь, subordinate clauses with который and потому что, possessive pronouns его, её, их, verb phrase работать кем; phonetics: pronunciation of сж, зж, чн, щ;
  • 4. Vocabulary, topic: ecology and protection of the environment and nature; grammar: conjugation of verbs быть, забыть, экономить, conjugation of verb types -овать, -ировать, verb phrase пользоваться чем, участвовать в чём, compound sentences with conjunction чтобы; phonetics: revision of pronunciation of soft лʼ;
  • 5. Revision: vocabulary, phrases, grammar, phonetic form the lectures 1–4; the improvement of speaking skills;
  • 6. Vocabulary, topic: Moscow and its sights, M. V. Lomonosov, travelling; grammar: dative case of possessive pronouns твой, ваш in masculine and feminine, accusative case singular of personal pronouns он, она, comparative of adjectives and expression of comparison, dative case plural of substantives and adjectives, indefinite pronouns with -нибудь; phonetics: revision of pronunciation of soft зʼ, сʼ, revision of intonation of questions with interrogative pronouns;
  • 7. Vocabulary, topic: media, work on computer; grammar: genitive and accusative cases of substantives and adjectives masculine, transformation принимающий → subordinate clause with который, indefinite pronouns and adverbs with -то, comparative of adjectives with более; phonetics: pronunciation of сш, зш, pronunciation of loanwords;
  • 8. Vocabulary, topic: EU, travelling, writing to friends; grammar: imperative of verbs of 1st person plural, local case singular of hard and soft adjectives of all the genders, conjugation of verb давать; phonetics: revision of pronunciation of vowel ы, pronunciation of сч, зч, contrast between hard and soft syllables;
  • 9. Revision: vocabulary, phrases, grammar, phonetic form the lectures 6–8; the improvement of speaking skills;

Teaching methods
The language course in its classical version: work with the student’s book and the workbook, occasional necessary theoretical explanations of the teacher, home tasks, additional materials according to attenders’ needs and interests, videos, audios, online quizzes etc.
Assessment methods
The course is finished by test that verifies the knowledge gained by students; to get credit, it is necessary to have at least 60 % points. To successfully finish the subject, the regular attendance is required—the maximum of two absences, apart from the period of changing in registration.
